Boston Celtics

Over the month or two, from draft night or to the biggest trade for one player in NBA history, we have seen the Celtics improve their team so dramatically that they might be in the hunt for their 17th NBA Championship. With a starting lineup, of Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo and Kendrick Perkins. You have a real contender in the Eastern Conference.

Wait...What....Reggie Miller. Thats right folks, let us stack this starting five even more. Lets go with, KG, Pierce, Allen, Reggie Miller, and Kendrick Perkins. The only man in that starting five you have no idea who the heck he is, is Kendrick Perkins.

The Celtics are going to make some noise in Boston and it has been a long, long, LONG time since a lot of noise has been coming out of the Fleet Center, or now, the TD Banknorth Garden.

PS: If you ever want to venture out to see this team play, make sure your over 25. Otherwise no beer or alcohol for you. They have problems with fake id's. Folks...They have big problems and they arent the fact that they cant tell fake from real... It is Boston what can you say.

Alex Rodriguez and his 500 Home Runs

Mark down the date of August 4th, 2007 because that is when Alex Rodriguez hit his 500th career home run. At 32 years and 8 days he is the youngest player by 330 days to hit his 500th career home run and only the third man to do so in a Yankee uniform and only A-Rod and Mickey Mantle hit their 500th in Yankee Stadium. It sure took a while, but it was worth the wait. The first pitch Alex saw from Kyle Davies he crushed over the left field wall. You can't help but think that if he is healthy for the remainder of his career he will be the only man to ever hit 800 home runs and I personally hope he does it wearing a Yankee uniform. Now many thought that Ken Griffey Jr. would be the all time home run king (he was certainly on pace), but injuries cost him any chance. If Griffey didn't get hurt he would have broken it and I think the same is true for A-Rod. Not to mention the best part is that there is no suspicion of cheating on the part of A-Rod. That idiot Jose Canseco says he has "stuff" on A-Rod, but I personally think it is just a ploy to sell more books. A-Rod has done it the right way and if he does someday break the soon to be Barry Bonds home run record we can all be proud to say that he did it the right way. A huge congrats to A-Rod goes out from Bill and I and we both hope to see him hit #600 while wearing a Yankee uniform.

Kyle Farnsworth and the trade deadline.

How and why Kyle Farnsworth is still on the New York Yankees is beyond me. He keeps bitching about how he isn't getting used enough. I guess he didn't get the memo that he is awful. The guy cannot get a 1-2-3 inning if his life depended on it. Now I understand that Farnsworth sucks and that nobody really wanted him, but I'm sure Cashman could have found a taker if they paid enough of his contract. How Kyle has the audacity to cross up Jorge and then walk away when he tried to talk to him makes me hate Kyle even more. I hope he never pitches in a big spot again.

The Yankees didn't really make much of a splash at the deadline this year which isn't usually a good thing, but this year I think it was. Proctor for Betemit was an OK deal in the sense that it helps out our bench, but hurt us because we lost a guy out of the pen. You have to understand that they are probably going to call up Joba soon so it was basically Proctor for Joba. I like Scott and didn't want to see him go, but Betemit was great last year and when he is right can be our starting first baseman. Not to mention that Cashman did not mess up the future of this team just to win this year. I badly want the Yankees to make the playoffs and win the World Series this year, but its just not worth giving up our young stud pitchers. I really have to laugh at some of the offers the Yankees got for Gagne and others. Everyone wanted either Hughes or Joba and there was no chance in hell we were giving up either of them for anyone. I don't care if it was Babe Ruth. So kudos to Cashman for not crippling our farm system.

Eric Gagne going to Boston is bad news for all Yankees fans, but it could be worse. At least he isn't on Cleveland or Seattle. As much as I want to win the division and really believe the Yankees still can, you have to think that the Wild card is their best bet at making the playoffs Both Cleveland and Seattle did nothing to improve themselves which bodes well for the Yankees.

The only other big time trade was Mark Teixeira going to the Braves. I thought it was a good deal for both teams and surprisingly Texas actually made an offer to Teixeira, but not being able to keep him the Rangers got the best deal they could have.

Not a very exciting trade deadline day, but we will see which players have the biggest impact.

ESPN's Who's Now...

ESPN put out their bracket style, Who's the Ultimate Superstar, competition on July 1st. They have had the first and second round, and the quarters so far and I have to say, this is rather ridiculous. Voting is done by 90% fan voting and 10% espn/celebrity panel. Someone has dropped the ball.

In the Semifinals.... - Tiger Woods will face off against Peyton Manning.
- LeBron James will face Shaquille O'Neal.

Shaquille O'Neal........Both Matt and I are saying, "How in the world did Tom Brady lose to Shaq??"

Shaq who has not played a full season since 04'-05' is really dismal. He is getting old, and I do not know how the fans can mess up this bad.

There must have been a ton of Shaq fans voting or a lot of Tom Brady haters. I do not know how you can hate someone who has won three Super Bowls and two Super Bowl MVP's.

I do not know how Shaq won this one.

I forsee a Tiger Woods vs LeBron James Championship, if the voters vote like they did with Brady vs Shaq, I am not even going to venture a guess who wins this.
